"You can't stop progress..."

Films: Hardware (1990)

Alias: None

Type: Man-Made

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: That of a large lawnmower.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: The apocalypse can be really sucky. Especially when there's barely any water, the radio guy is an obnoxious blowhard, and people occasionally salvage killer robots.

History: In a post-apocalyptic desert, a robotic head is scavenged and brought to civilization (what's left of it). It at first seems like the perfect Christmas gift, but soon, it is revealed that this is the head of a MARK 13 bot, a machine designed for combat and capable of self-repair so long as it can find metal. Now what exactly is lying around in a metal scavenger's room again?

Notable Kills: Nothing special

Final Fate: After getting canned a couple times, the MARK 13 is finally brought down when the shower is activated and drenches it in water, causing it to rust and deactivate. However, it is then announced that the government is willing to mass-produce these things...better get out your squirt guns...

Powers/Abilities: MARK 13's main draw are the syringes full of cytotoxin-filled syringes that act as its teeth. Also, it's something of a walking swiss army knife, and can self-repair rather easily.

Weakness: Humidity, or really anything water-related.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Scariness is often contextual. If this weren't an apocalyptic desert, there'd be plenty of water to stop this horrible piece of scrap metal dead in its tracks. But there isn't, and this thing will just get back up again to mutilate you.

Trivia: -Writer/director Richard Stanley claims that MARK 13 wasn't really motivated by anything malicious, and likened his programming to that of a spiritual quest. A murderous one, but still.

-The makers of this film were sued by Fleetway Comics due to this film bearing a passing resemblance to one of their short stories, "SHOK!".

Through the eyes of a steel killer.

Such is that of a powerful mech.

Never trust that creepy trader, is the lesson.

Somebody get out a hammer.

Some things are best left buried in radioactive dust.

Too much red! How much can we say it so you listen?!

Like we can't stop the urge for appealing colors?

End of movie! BYE!
